The exhibition «Sergio Agosti. OFF LOOM | BEYOND THE FRAME», curated by Silvana Nota, scheduled until 30 May.

Ninety years after the artist's birth and twenty after his death, this anthological exhibition is a tribute to a pioneer of Fiber Art .

In the rarefied atmosphere of the "Porta de Tessile" room, once a fifteenth-century chapel of the convent of Santa Chiara, twelve works belonging to the Wefts of Author civic collection are exhibited, to which are added some loans from the Agosti family . In particular, they can be admired elegant tapestries unconventional, the Assembly , i theatres , the Sewn stones , the works made with Bandera canvas, sculptures and installations.

All these works capture the attention for their profound meaning, for the delicate and dreamlike beauty, and which represent an important vehicle for speaking to the general public, as well as to the experts, of the multiple expressive possibilities of the ancient Chieri textile tradition, which Sergio Agosti declined in art of conceptual matrix.

SERGIO AUGUST

Painter, sculptor, engraver, Sergio Agosti (1933-2003) was a versatile and refined artist who experimented with oil and encaustic, the stratification of vegetable cartoons, the collage also with the use of Japanese rice paper, etching, lithography and chalcography for the creation of artist's books, up to the Mandala created with powdered pigments and minerals on paper supports.

Starting in the 1970s, Sergio Agosti developed an unprecedented cycle of works in which he employed the textile element, anticipating in Italy the innovative international experiences linked to the movement of Fiber Art .

Trained in Piacenza, in 1961 he moved to Turin and subsequently to Chieri, where his largest production of works of art was born and where, in 1972, he received the prestigious "Navetta d'Oro" award for an artistic research of 'full breath.
